Courtesy Call By His Excellency Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, President of the SEAMEO Council/ Minister of Education, Malaysia on The Honourable Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam.

BERAKAS, 20 January, 2009 - The Minister of Education, Malaysia, His Excellency Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein, in capacity as the current President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council, is in the country for a two-day official working visit.

Today, His Excellency Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin paid a courtesy call on Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Minister of Education, at his office in Berakas.

During the meeting, both discussed bilateral relationship and co-operation on education and training, especially in the areas of collaboration based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the 14th February 1992. His Excellency and delegation were later briefed on the new Brunei Darussalam Education System for the 21st Century (SPN-21) by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohd Daud bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education).

His Excellency Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin is on a working visit to all SEAMEO Member Countries, including Brunei Darussalam, as part of his duties as the President of SEAMEO Council. The main purpose of his visit in Brunei Darussalam is to take a closer look at SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO-VOCTECH) in Gadong, and to gain information on the Centre’s mandate on strengthening and improving the quality of vocational and technical education and training through human resource development in Southeast Asian countries.

In attendance during the coutesy call are His Excellency Dato’ Ku Jaafar bin Ku Shaari, High Commissioner of Malaysia, Yang Mulia Mr Mohd Zulkifli Mohammed, Undersecretary of the Policy and International Relations Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohd Daud bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Yang Mulia Awang Haji Suhaila bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) and senior officials from both Ministries.
