Minister paying a visit to one of the classes at SR PPSD Sahibul Bandar
School leaders and administrators are advised to be more aware of the needs of their students in their action plans. "Innovative programmes should be included so that students would be more interested and be more expectant of the programmes and activities that would be held in schools.
"Students, especially the younger ones, should be provided time to play, sing and also be included in fun learning practical activities.
"Introducing them to a more challenging activity should arouse their curiosity and therefore harness their mental powers," said Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdul Rahman Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Mohamed Taib, Minister of Education, during his visit to Pengiran Pekerma Setia Diraja Sahibul Bandar Primary School in Kg Mata-Mata in Gadong.
The minister was greeted by the school's Headmistress, Cikgu Hjh Norsiah Hj Salleh on his arrival.
The tour started with a short introduction of the school and the programmes offered. Then, the minister visited different classrooms of Year One to Four, where he observed lessons in progress. He also visited the library, ICT room, art rooms and science laboratories.
The minister's delegation continued their visit to Katok Secondary School, situated in the Kg Katok housing area in Beribi.
Katok Secondary School was built in July last year and was constructed specifically for pre-university students. The 12-hectare facility currently accommodates 507 Upper Six students who commenced classes on January 5 this year.
The visit was to check on the facilities for proper learning - including bigger classrooms, computer and science labs, library, school canteen, lecture theatres, multi-purpose hall, a surau and sports facilities, such as the grandstand, and the track and field.
During the visit, the minister advised staff to fully utilise and maintain the school's facilities. He also reminded the school's administration to speed up the process of fulfilling the school's needs before the new batch of Lower Six start schooling this March.
